Introduction to route
The School Direct programme is for high-quality graduates who want to be part of a school team from day one.
The Route allows you to learn on the job as you work towards your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recommendation, undertaking a placement within primary, secondary and special education needs schools.
As well as being based in a school, you’ll also be taught by an education provider within the school’s partnership, attending lectures and seminars to bolster your hands-on experience with theories.
There are two types of training options within the route, salaried and un-salaried. Each leading to the award of QTS upon successful completion. Many courses also award a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) or masters-level credits.
Programmes generally last for one year.
